Though introduced earlier in the story and likely found at Arkfalls beforehand, Dark Matter are mostly encountered in San Francisco.
Mechanized enemy on two legs with basic blast attacks and melee stomp attack that will knock ark hunters off their feet. Can open missile ports which are both weakspots and capable of launching an area-of-effect coldfire attack that continues burning for a period. Damaging the weakspots causes the machine to hunch over and remain stunned briefly.
Basic Dark Matter unit that will use cover for ranged weapon attacks but capable of melee if close enough. Will also throw energy grenades that appear as yellow spheres. Vulnerable to headshots.
Leaders of Dark Matter capable of erecting a forward-facing shield that absorbs damage from most weapons, though Detonators damage both the shield and Monitor. Standard distance weaponry attacks and close-range swivel kick melee attack. Will also throw energy grenades that appear as yellow spheres. Vulnerable to headshots.
Boss of the Major Arkfall “Dark Matter Extraction Force”, these are also encountered in a number of Story missions. Capable of homing missile and charged blast attacks, they have four legs with Armor Hardpoints that must be destroyed to reveal a Motivator. Destroying one of these causes the Monolith to collapse and revel its Tachmag Drive which must be destroyed.
Cloaking enemy with sniper rifle that must reveal itself before firing. Targeting laser is location giveaway. Vulnerable to headshots.
