My Magazine Collection (Part 1)

I finally finished indexing my collection and am presenting a raw look at the data I will use to build my magazine database. There may be errors but hopefully I will spot them as I add in the missing information. There are also more issues to add as I found more of my collection as I worked to clear out my parents’ house but will have to dig through storage.

One of the goals of Videogame Pavilion is to provide a timeline of old videogame media to get a sense of what was out there at any specific time. At the moment I only have the information printed in the magazines themselves such as cover “Display Until” dates or inside “Coming Next Issue” promises. It is my hope that I can work with magazine distributors such as Ingram to get exact dates.

One of the struggles was finding printed issue, volume and number entries on all issues as sometimes this information was on editorial pages or in the small print along with publishing information. Because of this some items on the list may be out of sequence. Once the data is normalized this won't be a problem but I thought it important to note this information as printed, even in error.

I hope to have another post up early next week with more data such as the standardized issue numbering used by other archivists to ensure proper sort ordering.
